The return of the iconic mermaid Dyesebel to television made a huge splash in ratings Monday, making it the overall No. 1 show in the Philippines, according to producer ABS-CBN.

Citing data from Kantar Media, ABS-CBN said its adaptation of "Dyesebel" with Anne Curtis in the title role registered a nationwide rating of 32.8%.

This strong viewership made the fantaserye the most watched program in the country on March 17, as measured by Kantar Media using a panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes.

The pilot episode of "Dyesebel" also dominated conversations on Twitter, with its official hashtag, "#DyesebelAngSimula," topping the list of trending topics in the Philippines and worldwide.

Curtis, who is the seventh actress to play Dyesebel in a lead role, is seen swimming as the orange-tailed mermaid in the opening minutes in this latest adaptation of the Mars Ravelo comics series.

Its pilot episode focused on the love story between the parents of the lead character -- Tino (Albert Martinez), a prince of the merfolk, and Lucia (Dawn Zulueta), a young woman from a fishing village.

"Dyesebel," which airs after ABS-CBN's flagship newscast "TV Patrol," replaced the recently concluded "Honesto" in its time slot.

Also produced by Dreamscape Entertainment Television, the inspirational series which promoted the value of honesty concluded last March 14 after four months on air.

With its final episode, "Honesto" remained the Philippines' No. 1 show with a national TV rating of 35.4%, also according to Kantar Media.

Starring showbiz newcomer Raikko Mateo in the title role, "Honesto" was under the direction of Jerry Sineneng, Darnel Villaflor and Tots Mariscal.
