Starting Over Again Passes P400M mark that breaks records
The first big screen team-up of Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga made history on Saturday, becoming the first non-Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry to surpass the P400-million mark.According to Star Cinema’s advertising and promotions manager Mico Del Rosario, "Starting Over Again" now ranks among the highest-grossing Philippine films of all time, just a month after it was released in theaters on February 12.
It bumped off the 2011 comedy film, "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin," which earned P332 million during its run.
The film, which is Star Cinema's Valentines' Day offering, also broke records abroad, becoming the highest-grossing Filipino movie in the international box office.
It also beat the previous career records set by its lead stars Pascual and Gonzaga, as well as its director Olivia Lamasan ("Madrasta", "The Mistress", In the Name of Love").
Written by Carmi Raymundo, "Starting Over Again" tells the story of college professor Marco (Pascual), whose girlfriend, Ginny (Gonzaga), left him without saying goodbye or giving an explanation.
Four years after the breakup, the two cross paths again at a time when Marco is already happy with a new partner, Patty (Iza Calzado).
Forced to work with Marco, who has also successfully pursued his passion to become a chef, Ginny starts to regret leaving him and tries to win him back.
"Starting Over Again," which is part of the continuing 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN film outfit Star Cinema, is still showing in over 270 theaters in the Philippines and in select theaters in the United States.
