Maja Salvador has no problem with Kris Aquino

Actress Maja Salvador insisted that she has no problem with television host Kris Aquino, who is known to be very close with Kim Chiu.

The actress even said she's willing to guest on "Aquino and Abunda Tonight" to promote her debut album, "Believe," although she did say she would want to have both Aquino and co-host Boy Abunda during the interview.

"Dapat dalawa po sila," Salvador said at the launch of her album on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Salvador even addressed Aquino as "Tita Kris," given that she is the niece of actor Philip Salvador, who has a son, Joshua, with the "Kris TV" host.

"Walang awkward. Sobrang love ko 'yan, si Tita Kris," says Salvador.

Aquino had repeatedly expressed her support and love to Chiu despite criticisms from some fans who have accused her of being unfair.

An Instagram user recently pointed out that Aquino has been guesting Chiu on her morning show "Kris TV" too often without giving a chance to Maja Salvador, who is the current girlfriend of Chiu's ex-boyfriend Gerald Anderson.

Despite this, Salvador said she doesn't mind that Aquino is closer to Chiu.

"Totoo naman na close din si Tita kay Kim. Walang dapat paglabanin kung sino ang mas close kay Tita Kris. Ang importante doon ay okay din kami ni Tita Kris pero 'yun nga lang mas nakakasama niya talaga si Kim. Pero ako kasi since every day ang taping ko ng 'The Legal Wife' di ako nakakapag-guest sa kanya. Pero okay kami," Salvador stressed.

Ending rift with Kim

In the interview, Salvador also reiterated her hopes that she will eventually reconcile with Chiu, who was once her best friend.

"In time, magugulat na lang kayo. Gugulatin na lang namin kayo na ay okat na pala kayo,'" Salvador said.

"Believe lang tayo baka in time. Kasi magkakasalubong at magkakasalubong kami at isang taon na 'yon. At di ba tao kaming lahat na pwede kaming magpatawad, pwede kaming mag-start ulit at pwede naming i-accept kung ano ang sitwasyon natin ngayon? Matatanda na din kasi. Ikaw mismo dapat alam mo kung ano ang dapat i-let go," she said.

Asked if she's making a way to finally end her rift with her "Ina Kapatid Anak" co-star, Salvador merely replied: "Pray for us."

Host-actress Kris Aquino appealed to her fans to give her the privacy she needs when it comes to her love life.

On Instagram, Aquino posted a quote about relationships: "A true relationship is two unperfect people refusing to give up on each other."

She admitted that she has read all the speculations and questions about her new love, and blamed herself for giving hints in her recent posts.

She went on to promise that she will be "less personal" on social media as she chooses not to reveal the identity of the man she is now dating.

"I can't pretend I haven't read your comments, questions & speculations about my relationship status & part of that is my fault for sharing so much of my heart in these posts, but I want what we have to work so forgive me for choosing to not reveal his identity... Yes I know, I make my living, a very rewarding one from your support & goodwill, but I owe myself this chance at lasting happiness," she wrote.

"We are a work in progress & each day has challenges, yet each day I also feel he encourages me to be a better me. I'm learning understanding, respect, and maturity because he is intelligent, hard working, patient, simple, humble, funny, grounded & stable, YES he is what I've been praying for... my IG posts will be less personal in the coming days, but I'll still try to not be boring. Thank you to all those wishing me happiness, I am genuinely touched by your affection for me... Good Night. (love, love, love)," she added.

On her morning show "Kris TV" aired on Monday, Aquino hinted that the guy is in his mid-40's.

Lance Raymundo speaks up about his gym accident

Singer-actor Lance Raymundo is not blaming anyone over the freak gym accident he had last week which left his face crushed.

In an article published on The Philippine Star on Tuesday, Raymundo was quoted as saying "it was nobody's fault."

“It was an accident. Nobody wanted it to happen,” he said.

Raymundo said it was just unfortunate that the 80-pound barbell fell on his face.

“When I came to my senses wala na akong ilong, wala na akong mukha,” he said. “It was traumatic.”

Nonetheless, the singer-actor is grateful to be still alive.

“Had the barbell fell an inch higher, I would have been a goner. Or if it fell four inches lower, it would have struck my neck and the result would have been fatal just the same,” he said.

According to the article, Raymundo is set to undergo a five-hour operation on Tuesday in an undisclosed hospital.

“My doctors assured me that I would look the way I did before the accident,” he said.

Over the weekend, Raymundo’s mother sent a statement to ABS-CBN News detailing what happened to her son.

“The person who was assisting him on his workout accidentally dislodged the barbel on top of Lance's face when he leaned forward,” she said. “Luckily, with God's grace, his skull and his neck were spared as injuring those two parts would have been fatal.”

Raymundo’s mom also thanked the people who rushed her son to the hospital for it was because of them that the singer-actor was given immediate medical attendance.

In the same statement, Raymundo’s mother advised producers, casters, production houses, movie outfits and directors with whom her son has contractual obligations that he will be out of commission for three months.

Both Raymundo and his mom are appealing for prayers so he may immediately recuperate.

Globe Telecom extends free Facebook service

Globe Telecom announced on Tuesday that it is extending its free Facebook promo offer until April 24.

The free service, which was launched in October last year, allows Globe subscribers to access the social networking site with no data charges.

Globe’s vice president for Mobile Data Services Jenny Granada-Echvarria said the offer was extended “due to the overwhelming response” from subscribers.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg recently showcased the promo at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, citing the partnership with Globe in connecting more Filipinos to the internet.

Under the promo, Globe users can access Facebook on feature phones and smartphones across all Facebook mobile platforms whether via the Facebook app or Facebook’s mobile site m.facebook.com without charges.

Customers are also notified if they will incur data charges once a link that leads out of Facebook is clicked to prevent “bill shock.”

To view content outside Facebook, prepaid users with insufficient load can also “loan” a 10MB data plan for only P10, which will be deducted on their succeeding top-up.

Maja Salvador speaks up about Gerald's Mother

Amid reports that the family of her boyfriend does not approve of her, actress Maja Salvador on Tuesday insisted that she is getting along well with Gerald Anderson's mother Evangeline "Vangie" Opisima.

"Sobrang okay kami ni Tita Vangie. Grabe lang 'yung respeto ko din sa kanya kaya ayaw ko ding magsalita ng magsalita. Importante din sa akin 'yung fans nila. So ako hindi ako parte ng love team kaya kami tahimik," Salvador said in an interview during the launch of her debut CD "Believe" on Tuesday.

As a girlfriend, Salvador admitted that she's making an extra effort to be close to Anderson's mother. "Dapat naman po," she said.

Salvador also appealed to her critics to stop comparing her relationship with Anderson's mother, who was once close to the actor's ex-girlfriend Kim Chiu.

"Huwag na nating i-compare. Ano ba 'yon?" she said.

Salvador also spoke on rumors that she and Anderson are now having problems.

"Sa industriya natin kung masyado kang nagpapa-interview or updated kayong lahat, publicity. O kapag tahimik, naghiwalay na. So nandoon din kami sa parang bahala na lang kung may question about sa amin. May mga bagay na pwede kaming sagutin, may mga bagay na hindi. Kasi siguro para mag-work ang isang relationship ay kahit paano magtira kayo ng para sa inyong dalawa," Salvador said.
In a recent interview on "Buzz ng Bayan," Anderson cleared that her mother is not against Salvador.

"No, of course not. 'Yung nanay ko, siguro alam ng lahat na ganun talaga siya. She’s a very strong woman, napaka-strong niya at ganun talaga siya magsalita. Pero hindi naman siya nakikialam. Okay naman sila (ni Maja), steady, they’re doing good. Basta okay naman. Sobrang happy ako, sobrang blessed ko na lahat ng parte ng buhay is coming together," Anderson said.

Sarah Geronimo felt Jealous for Yeng Constantino being Engaged with Yan Asuncion

Sarah Geronimo admitted that she is jealous of her friend, singer Yeng Constantino, who recently became engaged to her first boyfriend.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News over the weekend, Geronimo said Constantino’s love story is truly inspiring.

“Naiinggit ako kasi nakakainggit 'yung love story nila. First boyfriend niya si Yan (Asuncion), first girlfriend niya si Yeng tapos parehas sila ng paniniwala sa Diyos. So napaka-inspiring ng love story nila. Naiinggit talaga ako,” she said.

While several celebrity couples have been tying the knot recently, Geronimo said she does not want to rush into marriage.

“Napakabilis ng panahon. Hindi ko naisip na marrying age na pala ako, 25. Pero siyempre kailangan pag-isipan talaga ng mabuti dahil lifetime commitment 'yan. Ipinagdadasal naman yan,” she said.

Asked if she also plans to have kids, the prized singer-actress said, “Siyempre naman darating at darating tayo sa pagkakataon na magkakapamilya at hopefully mabibiyayaan ng sariling anak. When? Siguro sana in my early 30s or before mag-30. Tignan natin. I’d like to have my own family.”

Geronimo has been romantically linked to Matteo Guidicelli since early last year, although the two Kapamilya stars have kept mum on their allegedly blossoming romance.

‘The Voice Kids,’ movie

Meanwhile, Geronimo said she currently has her hands full because of two new projects which she’s working on.

The singer was referring to the kids’ edition of the talent show “The Voice of the Philippines” and her upcoming movie with Coco Martin.

“Stressful pero fun ['yung ‘The Voice Kids.’] Talagang amazing experience kasi ilang kids 'yung napakinggan kong kumanta from eight years old to 14 years old. Stressful lalo na kapag naiiyak sila. Kailangan ng magandang way ng pagsabi sa kanila na ‘Maybe this is not your time yet. Konting hinog pa. Practice pa,’” she said.
Just like in the show’s first season, Geronimo said she still needs to use her charms as an edge to her fellow coaches Bamboo and Lea Salonga.

“That’s what the show is all about. Competition din ng mga coaches ito. Bawat team, talagang ire-represent mo. Part of the show talaga 'yung healthy competition,” she explained.

“Ako, dinadaan ko sa charm na kung ano man 'yung personality ko. Ginagamit ko minsan si Laida na pangkulit sa mga bata kasi kailangan talaga to entertain them and to persuade them para makuha mo sila sa team mo,” she said.

As to her project with Martin, Geronimo said they do not know yet when it will be released.

“Okay naman po. Hindi naman kasama ngayon si Ms. Ruffa (Gutierrez) kasi meron siyang ginagawa munang ibang show. Si Coco is busy doing his TV series din so medyo agawan sa schedule kaya hindi pa namin muna masabi kung kelan ito ma-show,” she said.

Since it is also a comedy-drama, the singer-actress said she is trying not to associate her new role with Laida Magtalas, her character in the series of romantic-comedy films with John Lloyd Cruz.

“Ang konsepto ng movie namin hindi drama eh. May pagka-romcom. Pero madagdagan din ng drama kasi 25 na rin ako. Actually iniingatan ko na kahit may comedy siya, dapat malayo talaga kay Laida,” She said.

This upcoming movie marks the second project of Geronimo and Martin together.

60 year old woman to graduate from La Consolacion College

60 year old woman to graduate from La Consolacion College

Sixty-year-old Perpetua Cañete is enjoying her last few days in college as she finishes her teaching practice assignment in Lilo-an National High School.

Cañete is among the 37 graduating students of La Consolacion College in Lilo-an town in Cebu for Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in Social Science.

Before the big day on March 22, Cañete had a taste of what it is like to teach a room full of teenagers.

"I enjoy teaching young students, maybe because at my age, I have learned how to get their attention and have them listen to everything I say," she said.

Cañete has three kids, all of them professionals. One works as a nurse, another a seaman, and the other a businessman running catering services. Cañete's husband, meanwhile, is a barangay tanod in Poblacion, Lilo-an.

She said it was her family who urged her to enrol and pursue her dream of becoming a teacher.

In 2009, Cañete took a few units in Education.

"I just wanted to test if going to school is really for me. At my age, it's pretty funny to sit inside a classroom with students who are young enough to be your grandchildren," she laughingly said.

But Cañete was surprised that her professors were so supportive of her that they encouraged her to pursue education.

She said her classmates would also lend her their notes whenever she missed a class because of some household obligations.

When she was young, Cañete took up medical technology in Southwestern University. She, however, never got the chance to finish her studies as she got married at the age of 20.

But Cañete said being a medical technologist was never really her dream. She just pursued it because it was her parents' dream.

Teaching was something she would have wanted to take at that time, she said.

After she got married, she needed to work abroad to help raise her family. She worked as a caregiver in Taiwan for 10 years and then went to Hong Kong to be a babysitter for two years.

"I have worked as an OFW, encountered a lot of different kinds of people and children. This experience made me more equipped in handling students and teaching them," she said.

Though now 60 years old, an age suitable for retirement, Cañete still wishes to land a job after graduation as a teacher.

But she said public schools may not hire her. So she is hoping that private academic institutions may find her age an advantage.

"I am 60 years old, I'll be 61 in July. I really hope that schools will consider me and look at my age as my edge from all the other young graduates. I'm a mother, grandmother, teacher rolled in one," Cañete said.

What is the reason of Kaye Abad and Guji Lorenzana break up

What is the reason of Kaye Abad and Guji Lorenzana break up

While she refused to give details about her breakup with Guji Lorenzana, her boyfriend of three years, Kaye Abad admitted that "some things just don't work."

The 31-year-old actress, who first confirmed the separation in February, was asked about the topic during a recent press conference for the March 21 finale of the primetime series "Annaliza."

"Gano'n lang talaga, e. Trial and error. Nagkataon lang siguro na error na naman ngayon," Abad told reporters, when asked about the reason for the breakup. "Gano'n lang talaga... May mga hindi lang talaga nag-wo-work."

Abad, who earlier admitted initiating the breakup, said she is still hurting, "kasi napamahal sa 'yo 'yung tao, nasanay ka na kasama mo siya na ganoon katagal."

"Pero kailangan ko isipin 'yung brighter side o 'yung mas importanteng side na para sa aming dalawa rin naman 'yon, na para sa future din namin," she added.

Afraid to love again?

The former couple first got acquainted in 2009 when they co-starred in the afternoon series "Bud Brothers" and "Somewhere In My Heart." At the time, Abad said Lorenzana was already forthcoming about his feelings for her.

Asked why they never confirmed being a couple, Abad recalled how she and Lorenzana gradually grew into the relationship, noting that they never had the talk of becoming officially together.

"I told him na hindi pa ako ready, dahil galing ako sa seven-year relationship ko with Chito [Miranda]," Abad said, referring to Parokya ni Edgar frontman. "Naging masugid siya, naghintay siya, ta's sabi ko, 'Hindi pa ako handa.' Tapos sabi ko, 'Nasa sa iyo iyan kung gusto mo gumive up o kung gusto mo maghintay.'"

"Naghintay siya hanggang sa naging gradual nalang, e, na parang after a year... Parang gano'n narin naman. Wala kaming anniversary. Ganoon ka-gradual 'yung nangyari, na parang understood nalang na, 'O, siguro nga tayo na,'" she narrated.

While he was open in media interviews about his hopes of settling down with Abad, Lorenzana, according to the actress, did not propose to her during their relationship.

"Hindi pa rin naman ako handa," she said. "Hindi ko pa nararamdaman na kailangan ko na mag-settle down."

Asked if she is afraid to fall in love again, the actress answered, "Actually, hindi. Mabilis ako ma-fall, e. Lalo na pag 'yung weakness nandoon sa taong 'yon. Pero ngayon, medyo natatakot. Ngayon ko nararamdaman 'yung takot na siguro, hindi na muna."

Tips to make the most out of your time

Tips to make the most out of your time

Tips to make the most out of your time

Do you feel that you don't have enough time to do everything you need to do in a day?

ANC On The Money's resident financial advisor Salve Duplito said time is man's biggest money-making resource.

In business and in one's personal life, Duplito said one should accomplish the most important things first. "This sounds so simple but difficult to do without actively watching how you spend your time," she said.

Most people are easily distracted by Facebook that they find themselves wasting hours of their time just looking at friends' photos and viral videos.

"Most of us these days get hooked on the least important stuff. At the end of the day, we miss opportunities to deepen a relationship with a client or understand more about a new investment opportunity. Worse, you don't have enough time to spend with your spouse and kids," she said.

Duplito suggests identifying the biggest priorities in your life. "Think about your non-negotiables, making them your priorities will help you earn more money or avoid losing money," she said.

Non-negotiables:

1. Quality time with God, spouse, children, parents or siblings.

"I'm sure that no one on their deathbed would say, I wish I spent more time in the office. Putting family first has big financial implications... Children who get more quality time with their parents tend to ask for fewer toys. Spouses who spend more quality time together end up having happier, longer marriages. Never forget that with the cost of annulment these days, it's always cheaper to keep your spouse."

2. Budget and track your finances.

"I suggest you consider budgeting and tracking your finances. With everything that goes on in a day, it's hard to track what goes out of your wallet. But when you don't, you are sure to lose money. Tracking your spending vis-a-vis your goals for each budget category will help you know at any point in time, whether you are overspending or not."

"The best-selling book and personal finance classic 'The Millionaire Next Door' by Thomas Stanley and William Danko surveyed more than 1,000 wealthy individuals in the US. It discovered that the truly wealthy in terms of assets, not measured by size of expensive houses or model of cars, spend a lot of time budgeting and tracking their spending."

3. Educate yourself about investments.

"Don't depend solely on sales people. It takes time and patience. Even if you're a doctor, there's no reason why you shouldn't understand how companies and the stock market work."

Duplito suggests using a timer when checking your emails or going on Facebook or other social networks, to ensure you are focused on your task. Another way of making sure you are on track with your tasks is by creating a "to-do list."

"There's one thing we share with the Bill Gates and Warren Buffetts of the world. We all have only 24 hours in a day. Using time wisely is the secret of many of the wealthiest and most successful people in the world," she said.

Starting Over Again Passes P400M mark that breaks records

The first big screen team-up of Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga made history on Saturday, becoming the first non-Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry to surpass the P400-million mark.

According to Star Cinema’s advertising and promotions manager Mico Del Rosario, "Starting Over Again" now ranks among the highest-grossing Philippine films of all time, just a month after it was released in theaters on February 12.

It bumped off the 2011 comedy film, "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin," which earned P332 million during its run.

Passes P400M mark 'Starting Over Again' breaks records

The film, which is Star Cinema's Valentines' Day offering, also broke records abroad, becoming the highest-grossing Filipino movie in the international box office.

It also beat the previous career records set by its lead stars Pascual and Gonzaga, as well as its director Olivia Lamasan ("Madrasta", "The Mistress", In the Name of Love").

Written by Carmi Raymundo, "Starting Over Again" tells the story of college professor Marco (Pascual), whose girlfriend, Ginny (Gonzaga), left him without saying goodbye or giving an explanation.

Four years after the breakup, the two cross paths again at a time when Marco is already happy with a new partner, Patty (Iza Calzado).

Forced to work with Marco, who has also successfully pursued his passion to become a chef, Ginny starts to regret leaving him and tries to win him back.

"Starting Over Again," which is part of the continuing 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN film outfit Star Cinema, is still showing in over 270 theaters in the Philippines and in select theaters in the United States.

Daughter of Jose Manalo hospitalized for drug overdose

Comedian Jose Manalo's daughter was hospitalized after she allegedly tried to commit suicide inside their condominium unit in Greenhills, San Juan Wednesday evening.

Atty. Dennis Pangan, the legal counsel of Manalo's 17-year-old daughter, said his client took different kinds of medicines and was found unconscious by her mother inside their house around 10 p.m.

He added that the girl left a suicide note, wherein she allegedly expressed her dismay at Manalo for abandoning her, her mother, and siblings.

She also mentioned how her father failed to fulfill his promise to pay her tuition fee in the letter, according to Pangan.

The girl also expressed disappointment over Manalo's alleged lack of support for her younger sibling, who always cries when looking for their father, Pangan added.

"Parang hindi ho sila tinuturing na anak ng kanilang tatay," Pangan said.

The girl, who is suffering from depression, is now conscious and is recuperating at the Medical City in Mandaluyong.

In 2012, Manalo had a legal tiff with his wife, Anna Lyn, who accused him of not fulfilling his financial responsibilities to their children following their separation over the comedian's alleged extra-marital affair.

Anna Lyn, at the time, alleged she started to experience verbal abuse from Manalo in the second half of 2011, amid rumors that the TV host was having a "sexual relationship" with a member of popular dance group. She claimed that Manalo's alleged tirades were committed even in the presence of their children.

At the height of the controversy in March 2012, Manalo denied neglecting his children, saying he continued to provide for them.

In an interview in December of the same year, Manalo said he no longer has communication with Anna Lyn, but stressed that he has been giving financial support to his children. -- with a report from Dennis Datu, DZMM

To get Fit:  Eat more, Exercise Less

Model-actor turned fitness consultant Edward Mendez is encouraging Filipinos to eat more and exercise less if they want to lose unnecessary fat and gain more muscle.

After testing it for himself and getting a lean physique, Mendez now actively promotes this fitness principle by holding classes and writing a book titled “Your Dream Body Come True.”

In an interview on “Mornings@ANC” on Wednesday, Mendez said the key to getting a strong and lean body is eating healthy food often and having quick, intense workouts.

He observed how a lot of people tend to exercise too much and starve themselves in an effort to slim down.

“Don’t starve yourself because if you do that, the thyroid gland will sense that there is no food coming in. The metabolism will go down and the fat, which is considered reserve energy, will be stored and will become more stubborn to burn,” he explained.

“That’s the common problem – they keep losing weight but they’re not satisfied with the shape of their bodies because they’re not really losing fat, they’re also losing muscles,” he explained.

“Most people like to train two to three hours in the gym,” he added. “The problem with that kind of regimen is they’re damaging their bodies more. And when they do that, muscles are being eaten up and the metabolism also goes down.”
One of Mendez’ clients or “jedis” as he calls them is “Mornings@ANC” host Pinky Webb, who attested to the intensity and effectiveness of his program.

Referring to Webb, he said: “Not only is she getting thinner but she is also getting strong. She started with the squats, now she is doing [more intense workouts].”
Mendez said that with his program, results can easily be seen after three months. His basic tips for a “dream body” include eating healthy food every three hours, working out for a total of four hours a week, and giving the body enough time to rest.

“You do cardio in one day for 23 minutes and you’re done. The next day, you do weight training for 45 minutes and then you’re done. So that’s three days of weight lifting and three days of cardio,” he said. “You focus more on nutrition. It’s 70% nutrition and 30% training.”

“You have to rest also. If you work out almost every day doing weight training or running, you’re not giving the body enough time to repair. Because every time you step into the gym, you’re damaging your body. You got to give your body some rest to complete the repair of the muscles. When you do that, that’s when you burn fat and shape your body up,” he added.
Mendez also advised those who want to get fit to avoid stress as much as possible.

“You have to control your stress level. Stress is the main culprit to weight gain and many other health complications. If you’re not stressed, you can easily burn fat and gain muscles,” he said.

How Marian Rivera reacted to Anne Curtis as Dyesebel

GMA-7 star Marian Rivera, the last actress to portray Dyesebel before Anne Curtis, said she is pleased with the casting of the Kapamilya actress as the iconic mermaid in ABS-CBN's upcoming adaptation of the Mars Ravelo tale.

Rivera was asked for her reaction to Curtis' title role in "Dyesebel" during a recent press event introducing her as the new endorser of a fabric conditioner.

"Si Anne, mabait siyang kaibigan. Sobrang bait niyan sa akin. Kasi sa Instagram, makikita niyo na nagpapalitan kami ng mga message namin sa isa't-isa," the 29-year-old actress said, referring to the popular image-sharing site.

Curtis, a former GMA-7 contract artist, was announced in January as the titular star in ABS-CBN's TV series based on the comics classic.

"Wala akong nakikitang masama na, alam mo 'yun, maging Dyesebel si Anne," Rivera said. "Dahil Anne is very beautiful, napaka-lovable ni Anne, at bagay siya bilang Dyesebel."

Rivera portrayed the well-loved mermaid in a GMA-7 adaptation in 2008, a year before she took on another Ravelo character, Darna, in a TV series from the same network.

Rival ABS-CBN earned the rights to both Darna and Dyesebel, as well as 11 other Ravelo creations in April 2013 -- a deal described by the late novelist's son, Rex, as "the best option" for their family.

"Ganun talaga ang mundo," Rivera said. "May papalit at papalit bilang Dyesebel at bilang Darna, bilang kung sino pang mga character, dahil ang tao, umiikot iyan, e. Happy ako na si Anne ang gagawa [ng 'Dyesebel']."

Dyesebel, in the original comics series, is a mermaid born on land to human parents, her mother a former mermaid herself. As a child, Dyesebel is sent away to live at sea with other merfolk after being blamed by superstitious townspeople for a series of disasters.

Different takes on the classic tale have made it to the big screen as early as 1953. Popular portrayals of the title character include Vilma Santos (1973), Alma Moreno (1978), Alice Dixson (1990), and Charlene Gonzales (1996).

Joining Curtis in the cast of "Dyesebel" are Sam Milby and Gerald Anderson as hear leading men, Dawn Zulueta, Albert Martinez, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gabby Concepcion, Ai Ai delas Alas, Andi Eigenmann and Eula Valdez, among others.

The series, which will debut on March 17 as part of ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block, is under the direction of Don Cuaresma and Francis Pasion.

Kris Aquino recalls all sweet gestures of James Yap

Proving that she and her ex-husband are on good terms, host-actress Kris Aquino recalled some of the sweet gestures of basketball player James Yap on Thursday's episode of her morning show, "Kris TV."

Aquino said Yap made an effort to make her smile during the saddest moments of her life by giving her special gifts.

"Last wedding anniversary namin na dying na ang mom ko at alam talaga ni James na malungkot na malungkot ako. Kahit ano talaga, kuripot siya, pero gastos siya talaga at binilhan niya ako ng Birkin," she said.

"I mean that was near the end pero parang sinabi ko, parang ang naalala ko sinabi niya, 'I know kung gaano ka ka-sad. Para at least may konting happiness naman dito.' That was my first [Birkin]. Hindi ako bumibili talaga kasi parang feeling ko kasalanan. I know it's a material thing but it was the thought behind the material thing," she added.

Referring to the expensive handbag, Aquino said: "Yeah, I didn't have that kasi bawal sa mom ko. Ayaw ng mom ko, naku that orange box pinagbabawal ng mom ko. After na lang ako nagkaroon kasi sabi ng mom ko hindi raw talaga makatarungan to spend that amount on a bag. So that was the first, doon nanggaling, that was July 10, 2009."

"No. 1, mahal siya talaga. Siguro isang buwan niyang sweldo 'yun," she added, referring to Yap's efforts. "Secondly, hindi naman niya talaga trip talaga pero alam niyang paliligayahin ako, 'yun siguro. Alam mo naalala ko pa, tumawag pa sila kay Gretchen para magtanong kung saan bibili."

Aquino admitted that she had to trade in the bag after they separated as part of her process of moving on.

"Pero noong naghiwalay kami, tinrade in ko, sorry. At least I'm being honest. Para wala na, move on, move on na tayong lahat para hindi na awkward," she said.

Meanwhile, Aquino recalled another sweet gesture from Yap -- the time when he bought her an expensive watch.

"May isa pa, noong birthday ko noong 2010. It was a watch na pink, 'yung face Rolex ang nakalagay doon. I remembered in that card, 'yung time na 'yon, pa-five years na kami. Sabi niya, 'thank you for the five years para palagi mong maalala.' Parang ganoon.

"Tapos tinrade in ko rin, sorry. At least alam nila, ganoon talaga 'yan para move on, move on. Kapag move on ako, move on talaga. Para at least hindi ko na masusuot, walang awkwardness so lahat ng sinusuot ko ngayon, akin na lang," she said.

Aquino and Yap recently ended their rift after agreeing over the visitation and custody of their son, James "Bimby" Yap Jr.

"Lesson ito for everybody, kaya ko naikwento kasi OK na, wala na, kaya ko nang i-look back," Aquino said.

Flappy Bird Creator said Flappy bird may rise again

The Vietnamese creator of Flappy Bird says he's thinking of resurrecting the smash-hit free game that he abruptly took offline a month ago -- albeit with a warning about its addictive qualities.

In his first interview since he pulled the app from the Apple and Android app stores, citing the pressure its success put on his "simple life," Nguyen Ha Dong told Rolling Stone magazine he now feels a sense of "relief."

But asked if Flappy Bird will ever fly again on mobile devices, Nguyen responded: "I'm considering it."

While he is not working on a new version, he said any sequel would come with a warning to users to "please take a break."

With its 2D retro-style graphics, Flappy Bird -- in which gamers try to direct a flying bird between oncoming sets of pipes without touching them -- was wildly popular.

When Nguyen, 28, announced on Twitter that he was about to take it down, 10 million people downloaded it in just 22 hours -- and one month on, clone versions still pop up.

Nguyen told Rolling Stone he was upset not only by the fame that surrounded his Flappy Bird success, but also by messages from people telling him how the game caused them to flunk exams and lose jobs.

Now enjoying a quieter life, he told Rolling Stone he is busy creating other games, including a cowboy-themed shooter, a vertical flying game and an "action chess game" -- one of which he will release this month.

Vietnam has a small but thriving software and games development sector and the global publicity surrounding Flappy Bird is likely to help it grow, technology experts have said.

Rolling Stone posted its interview with Nguyen on its website Tuesday ahead of publication in its March 27 issue. — Agence France-Presse

PBA stars eyed for FIBA 3-on-3 bash

Imagine Calvin Abueva slashing the middle, Arwind Santos hitting a jumper and Japeth Aguilar slamming it in for the Philippines in the Asia-Pacific leg of this year’s FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

The possibility was raised by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Sonny Barrios as he tackled the coming event in yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate.

Barrios said the Philippines will host the Asia-Pacific leg in July. It will comprise of 12 teams, including three from the host country.

Five other legs will be played in Beijing, Chicago, Lausanne, Rio de Janeiro and Prague. The top two teams in each leg will move on to the World Tour in Tokyo in October.

However, the former PBA commissioner stressed that it’s just a possibility.

“It being July, either the PBA is finished with third conference or if it is still ongoing only two teams are left playing in the finals,” said Barrios, meaning players from the eliminated teams can see action in the 3-on-3 event.

“So is it possible? I really don’t know,” said Barrios.

Barrios said one slot to the Asia-Pacific leg is already for the winner of the Philippine 18-Under 3-on-3 Championships in May 24-25. Another slot may be opened to the team of Kobe Paras, Prince Rivero and Alvin Tolentino that won the FIBA Asia 3-on-3 crown in 2013.

The third slot, Barrios added, is available to any team that can represent the country well in the Asia-Pacific leg and secure a slot to the World Tour in October.

“We can assemble a PBA team, D-League team or a collegiate team for the third slot,” Barrios said.

Also gracing the weekly forum were FIBA 3-on3 events manager Ignacio Soriano of Spain, SBP deputy executive director Bernie Atienza, SBP consultant Moying Martelino, Smart Sports executive Epok Quimpo and SBP legal counsel Aga Francisco.

Soriano said the FIBA 3x3 World Tour is open to all players, and that in the World Tour it’s even possible to see LeBron James or Kobe Bryant playing in the United States.

“In the World Tour the average age is 35 years old. It’s not about the age and height but the skills,” said Soriano.

The hosting of the World Tour was originally offered by FIBA-Asia to the Philippines following its highly-successful staging of the FIBA-Asia Men’s Championship last August.

Gilas Pilipinas wound up second behind Iran in the FIBA-Asia and earned a slot to the World Championship in Spain in August.

But Barrios said the SBP had to decline the offer so it could focus on the World Championship and the Asian Games in Incheon in September.

Because of this, Barrios said it was best for the SBP headed by Manny V. Pangilinan to decline the hosting of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

How Victor Asuncion proposed to Yeng Constantino

While they have only been together for eight months, the fiancé of Yeng Constantino said he was sure from the very beginning that he wants to spend the rest of his life with the Kapamilya singer.

Speaking on “Buzz ng Bayan” on Sunday, Victor Asuncion said he was sure that asking for Constantino’s hand in marriage was the right thing to do.

“Actually nung first time pa lang ako nagsabi sa kanya na liligawan ko siya, alam ko na na siya talaga 'yung gusto ko. Siya talaga 'yung gusto ko habambuhay. Doon pa lang alam ko na. So hindi na masyadong effort nung nag-propose ako sa kanya kasi alam ko na talaga, decided na ako,” he said.

“Buzz ng Bayan” reported Asuncion proposed to Constantino on Friday night after they watched a play with a group of friends.

Asuncion reportedly brought Constantino to an open field at the Bonifacio Global City where they had their first date. Upon reaching the exact same spot, Asuncion went down on his knees and took out the engagement ring.

Asked if it ever crossed his mind that Constantino could have said no, Asuncion said: “Knowing her and knowing our relationship, kahit papano may confidence na rin ako na she feels the same way na rin.”

For her part, Constantino admitted that she is still on cloud nine two days after she got engaged to Asuncion.

“Sobrang overwhelmed. Parang hanggang ngayon, lumulutang pa rin ako. Medyo high pa ako. Sobrang saya ko lang talaga na tinake niya 'yung leap of faith na sabihin niya sa akin 'yun that night,” she said.

Constantino said she is grateful for Asuncion because he taught her the true meaning of unconditional love.

“Hindi ko makakalimutan 'yung sinabi mo sa akin nung first month pa lang natin na na-settle mo na sa heart mo na mahalin ako kahit anong makita mo sa akin along the way. It’s something na nag-inspire sa akin how to love unconditionally. That’s how I see that God loves us. Thank you for your sincerity,” she told Asuncion on air.

The Kapamilya singer said her relationship with Asuncion also made her a better person.

“Ang dami kong natutunan sa kanya. May times nung first two months namin, sobrang nalilito kaming dalawa kasi first boyfriend ko siya, first girlfriend niya ako. Parang feeling mo minsan dahil pareho kayong tao, magkakaintindihan kayo agad. Pero magkaiba kayo. Sa mga times na frustrated ako, sasabihin ko ‘Mahal mo ba talaga ako?’ He will always be there,” she explained.

The couple has yet to set the date of their upcoming wedding.

Compilation of 'Melanisms' planned

Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, who has become known for her "quotable quotes" when speaking English, is planning to write a book that includes a compilation of these famous "Melanisms" over the years.

Foremost of Marquez's memorable lines was her response in the question-and-answer portion of the international pageant, where she was asked if she would insure her legs for a million dollars, like American actress Angie Dickinson had done years earlier.

"I won't change my legs," Marquez answered, "because I'm contented with my long-legged."

More than three decades and countless interviews later, Marquez said she is planning to put together similar one-liners, which have since become a signature of hers, in a book.

"I just hope this year [it gets released]. In the right time. Timing lang po iyan," she said.

"Marami pa akong iko-compile na nakakatawa, mga 'Melanisms' and quotable quotes ko, para lahat mag-enjoy -- isa na 'ko roon," the 49-year-old former beauty queen told ABS-CBN News Mario Dumaual last Saturday.

Marquez explained that the goal is to produce a humor book, saying Filipinos need a break from national issues, including the recent streak of political scandals.

"Kasi, alam mo, kailangan natin, sa dami ng problema rito, sa buhay natin, I don't think I should be negative," she said. "Sa akin talaga, positibong tao ako. It's nice also to laugh at yourselves, lalo na sa mga mistake sa grammar ko. So what? I'm not an American!"

"Pilipino ako, and I'm proud to be Pilipino. Yehey!" she said, laughing.

The mother of six is currently on vacation in the Philippines from Utah in the United States, where she operates a 200-acre ranch with her husband of 14 years, Atty. Randay Lawyer, and their family.

Marquez recently had a week-long guest appearance on the noontime program "It's Showtime" as a judge -- one of her several professional engagements in the Philippines, which she explained as the reason for her extended stay.

Asked why she has come to embrace being known for her "creativity" with the English language, Marquez said, "E kasi naman, may pagkabulol ako na sometimes po, 'yung gusto ko talagang sabihin, iba 'yung nabibigkas ko."

"But it doesn't matter," she said, looking into the camera. "As long as I can express myself and you guys can understand me, it doesn't matter!"

Ahead of the possible release of her book, here are 10 of Marquez's most memorable 'Melanisms' over the years and why she said them:

The couple behind Itlog Ni Kuya

The couple behind Itlog Ni Kuya

The couple behind Itlog Ni Kuya

Duck farm owners Leo and Josephine Dator had to weather not just one, but two storms, before attaining the success they have today.

In the 1980s, the then newly-wed couple borrowed P15,000 to put up a duck farm in Laguna.

Their initial capital afforded them to purchase 500 ducks priced at P30 each.

“Wala pa kaming ipon nu’n, syempre kakakasal lang namin. Wala pa kaming ganung kalaki na puhunan,” Josephine said on “My Puhunan.”

Leo said because of the small investment, they had to save their earnings to expand the farm.

“Hindi muna kami nagpatayo ng bahay, kung ano muna ang kinikita natin, iniipon namin siya and then nage-expand kami. Every time nakakaipon kami para sa materyales, nagpapagawa kami ng housing,” he said.

Their sacrifices and hard work paid off, and by 1990, their duck farm grew from 500 to 34,000 ducks.

However, the Dators encountered a setback in 1995 when one of the deadliest typhoons hit the country.

“Bumagyo ang Rosing, so totally wiped out,” said Josephine.

It took the couple years before they were able to regain momentum. In 2006, Itlog Ni Kuya and their “Peking duck project” were launched.

But another deadly typhoon, Milenyo, again wiped out their farm business.

Without a money-making venture, the Dators decided to find work elsewhere. They flew to the US and from being budding entrepreneurs, the couple tried their luck at housekeeping.

“Dapat ako lang ang aalis pero hindi siya pumayag dahil alam niya hindi ko naman alam ang ganoong trabaho,” said Josephine.

The couple behind Itlog Ni Kuya

After a year, the couple returned to the Philippines and tried once more to revive their duck farm.

Their perseverance and hard work paid off, as the couple again found success with Peking ducks, salted eggs, and the Filipino favorite balut.

Their farm now produces 1,000 eggs daily.

According to its website, the ducks bred in Itlog Ni Kuya are all “organically raised.”

“They are fed with rice bran, fishes, sweet potatoes and fresh water shells or ‘tulya’. Fresh and dressed Peking ducks (US-breed locally grown in Victoria, Laguna) are also sold with the organic salted eggs,” it added.

Ang Tindahan Ng Itlog Ni Kuya has branches in Calamba and Victoria, Laguna.

Amid 'rebellion' rumors, Sarah evades interviews

A smiling Sarah Geronimo debuted her new hairstyle Thursday during the launch of a shampoo brand's ad campaign, amid speculation that the pop star cut her hair short following a disagreement with her parents.

The 25-year-old singer has reportedly been wearing hair extensions in recent weeks, during live performances and at film shooting, to hide the drastic change. Her appearance at Thursday night's event was the first time she went public with the hairstyle.

The Reason Beyond Sarah Geronimo's short hair

Geronimo introduced the latest TV ad of Sunsilk, where she is seen with new co-endorsers Julia Montes and Jasmine Curtis-Smith. Notably, the TV commercial shows Geronimo with longer hair.

"I've been a Sunsilk girl for five years now and really there is no other brand that I trust with my hair, whatever the style or length -- short hair po ako ngayon," Geronimo said before the video was shown.

"And I'm very, very thankful to my Sunsilk family, 'no, that they continue to believe that I can be a source of inspiration to the millions of independent, positive, and determined Filipinas out there," she added.

While Montes and Curtis-Smith stayed on for media interviews after the press conference, Geronimo was quickly escorted to a different venue by security and event organizers. On her way out, the "You Changed My Life" star was asked by reporters why she cut her hair, but did not respond.

'Rebelling, depressed' Sarah?

In an interview on "Buzz ng Bayan" aired last Sunday, Geronimo was similarly evasive when cornered about the alleged issue between her parents and actor Matteo Guidicelli, who is rumored to be her boyfriend.

The Reason Beyond Sarah Geronimo's short hair

Asked to react to "sightings" of her and Guidicelli together, Geronimo said, "Puwede po huwag po natin pag-usapan? Okay lang?"

Explaining why she opts to keep her personal life private, the actress said, "Siyempre, personal po na buhay po namin iyon. 'Yun lang po. Sana naiintindihan po ng mga tao."

Geronimo appeared to be careful with her answer when asked whether she is aware of write-ups reporting she is depressed and rebelling against her parents.

"Siyempre, lahat naman may say, 'no, sa aming mg artista, mga public figures. Siyempre wala kaming control sa mga gusto nilang sabihin," she said.

Asked whether there is truth to rumors that her father, Delfin, is supposedly angry with Guidicelli, Geronimo said, "Please po, hindi po ako handang sagutin ang mga tanong."

Before her rumored romance with Guidicelli, Geronimo was linked, at different times, to Rayver Cruz and Gerald Anderson. The actors' respective relationships with Geronimo reportedly ended due to the disapproval of her parents.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Bieber, anyone? How about Flappy Fish or Flappy Sperm?

The success of Flappy Birds has led developers around the world to create their own versions of the mobile game. While some are outright copies of the game, featuring birds as well, others put a different spin to it, some ridiculous and some more successful than others.

Aside from the local version "Pugo," other versions include parodies designed for laughs, featuring flying mustaches, Cupid, spermatozoa, and Justin Bieber, and characters popularized in memes such as Doge, Nyan Cat, and the troll face.

One amusing variant, named Flappy Pipe, turns the tables on the well-loved (or hated) yellow bird, and requires the user to move pipes in order to avoid flying fowl.

While purists may scoff at the clones, players of the original game who are looking for a change ought to find them refreshing. In any case, they make great conversation starters.

Here are some of the numerous "Flappy" games on the Google Play and Apple App stores:

Flappy Stache by Team Chaos (Android and iOS)

One of the best-crafted among the Flappy Birds clones, Flappy Stache is made by Team Chaos, which holds the honor of being a Top Developer in the Google Play Store. The game plays smoothly and builds on the appeal of Flappy Birds by using a different, funnier character and adding music, sounds and animations.

Players get to play as a flying mustache, which gets "shaved" when it gets too close to electric razors which the game uses in place of boring old pipes.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Fish by Frojo Labs (Android)

This game uses non-pixel drawings, which is refreshing if you want your games to have a more polished look. It is ideal for the young’uns as it has a rather cute fish swimming through obstacles in the ocean.

Honorable mention: Flappy Fish by Octacore (Android) – This game poses a challenge for people who have gotten used to Flappy Birds by inverting the movement of the character. Instead of moving up when the player taps, the fish "dives" or moves down.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Gangnam by Awesome Crazy Fun Free Kids Games (Android)

This game is great for “Gangnam Style”-obsessed kids, as it allows the player three tries at the same level, and also features a small Psy lookalike flying through large gaps. However, parents should be wary as the game has in-game purchases, and the ads can be annoying.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Bieber by App5ive (Android)

Fans of Justin Bieber may like Flappy Bieber because they get to control the pop star’s face. His haters would probably enjoy it too, for the privilege of making his disembodied head hit obstacles while the classic cartoon sound signifying dizziness plays.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Stars - Miley Wrecking Ball Edition by Storm Factory (iOS)

If Justin Bieber is on the Google Play Store, Miley Cyrus is on the Apple App Store. In Flappy Stars, a caricature of Miley Cyrus, complete with protruding tongue and blonde hair, travels through gaps in pipes collecting—and trailing—hearts.

Honorable mention: Fallout Birds – This game features the members of the band Fall Out Boy. Instead of pipes, the band members have to pass through gaps in between guitars.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Troll by EgxGameFree (Android)

Set against a scene of the city by night, Flappy Troll stars the troll face, first popularized online as a meme. The troll face must avoid pipes just like in the original. Game play seems easier than the original, as the troll face does not jump too high when the screen is tapped, allowing for more controlled movements.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Sperm by mantisincgameproductions (Android)

This game presents a reproductive health angle, prominently featuring a spermatozoa swimming through a woman’s reproductive tract in its quest to fertilize the egg cell. The title screen also features a condom, with the text "Birth Control." While probably not for young children, the game ought to provide some hours of tongue-in-cheek fun for open-minded adults.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Pipe by WAEEBA (Android)

If you thought Flappy Bird was difficult, you should try playing Flappy Pipe. This clone game reverses the original—instead of players controlling the bird, they control the pipes. If you’ve mastered the original game, this ought to present much more of a challenge, as you have to perfect just when to move the pipes so the bird is able to move through the gap.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Pipe – Revenge of the Birds by Ben Gaddy (iOS)

In this game, as the name implies, it is the pipe's turn to fly and run smack into birds. It is a fun twist to the game, with the pipe inexplicably growing wings and sharp-beaked birds threatening its every move. Learning to control the flying pipe presents a challenge, as even a slight tap makes the pipe fly way up, and not tapping makes it quickly fall down.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.

Flappy Superhero Birds by Free Hot Games (iOS)

This game proves harder to play than Flappy Birds, as instead of tapping, you have to hold your finger down on the screen and release as needed in order to get the bird to remain at the best height to avoid obstacles and get the rewards. As the developers say in the game’s description in the App Store, it is "possibly the hardest game in the world!" You have been warned.

After Flappy Bird, get ready for Flappy fish, Flappy Bieber, Flappy sperm, Flappy Troll and etc.
